Friday the 23rd was the second of the three family get-togethers, this time with Mom's side of the family. Derek, Mom, me, Uncle Mike, Aunt Sherry, Uncle Mark, and Bryan went to Scoreboards for dinner.
Derek's friends also stopped by to say goodbye.

Derek pre-mission part 5: a trip to Kirtland!
On April 21 Derek, Me, Mom, Hallie, and Tyler took a trip to Kirtland so Derek could see the sites one more time before he left (after all he is going to be teaching this stuff!). First we visited the Kirtland Temple.

Our next stop was Historic Kirtland, which is actually owned by our church (The Kirtland temple is unfortunately, not).

We planned on visiting the John Johnson Farm as well, but they were closed by the time we made it there. Other than that it was a wonderful day!
Derek pre-mission part 4: family get-together #1
On Sunday the 18th after church we had our first family get-together for Derek with our Dad's side of the family. We had some yummy chicken for dinner and cake and ice cream for dessert! It was so delightful to spend time with everyone before Derek was to leave.

Derek pre-mission part 3: last day in Elyria Ward
April 18th was Derek's last day in Elyria Ward, and of course he was assigned a talk on missionary work! He did such a wonderful job, and I wish I had a transcript of it to put on here, but I do not. The chapel was full for his last sunday, and he got to say goodbye to some long-time friends.

Derek pre-mission part 2: Our trip to the temple
On April 17, Derek was able to join my mom and I and his friend to the temple in Columbus, OH. What a wonderful experience it was.
Afterwords we went to Derek's favorite restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings!
